Development Briefs

Quite rightly, there is considerable emphasis placed on the appearance of built development. It is often the case that a landowner, the developer or even the local planning authority will call for additional guidance to be prepared for proposals in sensitive locations or where higher standards of design are necessary. The practice will suggest the use of a Brief where a site is to be developed by several different parties to ensure that a unity of design, use of materials and landscaping is maintained.

Project

Sugar Beet Factory, Felsted

The former Sugar Beet Factory in Felsted is a site which requires the demolition of a substantial processing plant and the removal of ground contaminantion.

Outline planning permission was granted for 500 dwellings, a neighbourhood centre, recreation facilities and public open space. The practice was given the task by clients Taylor Woodrow of preparing a Design Brief for the 1st Phase of redevelopment.

It involved the design of an internal road and junction layout and guidance on the architectural character of the scheme having regard to the location of the site adjoining a historically important Essex village.
